Going, going, gone somewhere, but not gone entirely!

Boy, I'm pooped!

Last week at work, brain not working terribly well and some knotty problems to solve (mostly solved
before I left thankfully). Really lovely going away drinks/dinner with some surprise old acquaintances turning up. A variety of very thoughtful 'travelling related' going away gifts. Many, many going away hugs.
DON'T PANIC

After doing bits and pieces of packing, recycling, up-cycling, disposing, offloading and begging people to take things away over the last 5 weeks, there was still an amazing amount of stuff to deal with.  It's bonkers how many things you end up keeping over the years. So much stuff that is on the way out, so you buy a new one, but there's probably still a bit of wear or use left in it, so you stick it in the loft just in case it's useful... I find it very difficult to get rid of things sometimes.  Odd bits that have sentimental value, but no practical use are the worst.  An old money box that came free with chocolate buttons inside. The scout shirt I wore as a Beaver leader but which hasn't fitted for decades! A Phillies banner (baseball team) I got in the USA when I was 3.  I ended up keeping all of those things, They will probably never end up coming out of the box they've been packed in, but once they are gone, they are gone.  I did manage to throw a lot of other stuff away though.

I got 50 cardboard boxes to pack myself up with. I ended up using 49 of them. How's that for estimation...or luck!

Mum and Dad brought a Luton van down on Friday, to load all my belongings into. On Saturday Dad and I loaded up the van.  It was likened to 3D Tetris by friends on Facebook, and had the added complication of having my motorbike being loaded in as well. An amazing job done by Dad (I was mostly on lifting and carrying duty)

Meanwhile, Mum was busy packing the last few odds and sods, giving the house a bit of a once over, and removing the odd cobweb and evicting their occupants.

By 5pm we were done, and had time for a lovely little going away drinkies with Martin, Jo, Adam and Gemma across the road, followed by dinner out, followed closely by bed.  We were shattered!

Up at 6am the next morning, and the drive north began!  We did pretty well, even with the heavily laden van.  No bad traffic and only a couple of brief slow-downs.  We detoured to Peebles to return the bamboo to Matt (my ex-lodger - he left 18 months ago, but couldn't fit the bamboo in, so as we were passing... :)  A cuppa, some cake, and some cuddles with Bert (his now rather elderly German Shepherd), and we were on the way home to Elderslie!

Home.  The house I grew up in. Rather odd to be back 'living' here with Mum and Dad, but it's only for a month, and then I'll be off properly!

Monday morning we transferred everything to the storage facility in Glasgow, and it all fitted very nicely. Done by lunchtime, and then home to set up my computer!

That's all for now.
