Zion Part 1

As we left Vegas, I realized that I was missing a few nights.  No, I didn't go on a bender for several days, I just realized that the tour ends in Vegas on a Tuesday, and I don't fly out till late Friday evening and I had no accommodation booked! Rather than leaving it to be too last minute, I got online and booked an Air B'n'B type place, with a pool, for $45/night. I'm hoping to veg by the pool for a few days, maybe go see a show at one of the casinos or something.

We drove the few hours to Zion National Park, stopping on the way for some delicious roadside wood fire oven cooked pizza.  The weird (but tasty) stuff you get out here! They have a pizza oven on a trailer, so mobile pizza.  I was good and I did not go for the Nutella, whole raspberry and cream 'desert' pizza as pudding.

We checked into our hotel for the night and it is very nice indeed.  About 20 mins walk from the entrance to the park, recently refurbished, looks like a little village, and with a pool and hot tub! We tried those out later after dinner and they were very nice.

Martin felt the need to stand by one of the decorative squirting jets.  Nothing rude about it at all.
The views from the hotel and the village weren't bad either. Not often you get this sort of view from your balcony!

It had been raining on and off all day in Zion, which is not too unusual for this end of the year, but unusual enough.  The Virgin River which created the canyon was flowing fairly strongly and our guide Matt was hoping not too much would be closed because of the rain. We took a quick look at the walking options for our full day in Zion tomorrow, and then he drove us up into the park to see if there were any views at all with the rain and the clouds.  Needless to say, there were!  Including some great and unusual ones because there were streams and rivers where our guide had never seen water flowing before.

  2. Same weather as the UK, but nicer scenery.

What you're really missing is a sepia world map, with a red line drawn across to each of your destinations, in the style of Indiana Jones. Something like this:
